Watford draws 1-1 at Bournemouth in Premier League
The game ended with Watford and Bournemouth getting a goal apiece, both sides may have felt as though they could have left with the maximum number of points, however at least neither of them gave up three points to their possible relegation rivals.
It is safe to say that the most controversial moment of the game was the one penaltythat was awarded when Adam Smith went down in the box to an Etienne Capoue challenge. We encourage our players and our goalkeeper to be fearless and to take responsibility to play from the back.
Howe said: “I’m disappointed, we feel like we’ve dropped two points”. But the timing was unfortunate. His arching, twisting gymnastics to reach Steve Cook’s 20-yard overhead kick was simply fantastic. I though it was in, but it was an incredible save.
Er, don’t you think it might have been relief at surviving their latest trial from the penalty spot at Dean Court… especially as it wasn’t a penalty?
Murray answered Bournemouth’s striker SOS after top scorer Callum Wilson was ruled out for six months with a knee injury.
Murray opened the scoring on his full debut for Bournemouth in place of the injured Callum Wilson, with the £5million summer signing heading home Matt Ritchie’s cross just before the half-hour mark.
But Watford, who had not created a single chance of their own, were handed one on a plate a minute before time.
Odion Ighalo capitalised on a mistake by the Bournemouth keeper Artur Boruc to equalise before half-time, and Ben Watson rattled the crossbar as Watford pushed for a victor.
Boruc partly atoned for his error with a decent stop after Ikechi Anya burst through, before Gomes pulled off his incredible diving stop to keep Cook’s acrobatic effort from crashing into the top corner. Murray, though, was casual with his penalty and Gomes got down to save, meaning an eventful contest finished level. I don’t really remember them having a chance. But we’re very happy with the action because we are not a team that receives a lot of attempts but when we do Heurelho is there’. Yes, I thought the overhead kick was in.
Gomes joked: “I did not want to be in the highlights for the goal of the season!”
“To compare others with Heurelho is hard, but as a trainer I have worked with a few fantastic goalkeepers – De Gea, Santiago Canizares (at Valencia) and Gomes”.
