Wayne Rooney Admits Diego Costa Admiration
With both sides hit by a series of injuries, Spain’s friendly against England on Friday may not quite live up to expectations.
Long-serving captain and Del Bosque favourite Iker Casillas is facing stiff competition from Manchester United keeper David de Gea.
“I feel like the future is incredibly bright for a player like him and it is up to him, as he has said so many times himself, to keep working, to keep developing his game and improving and making sure that whenever the team is announced he is a name I can not possibly leave out”. “They are great tests for our team”.
Hodgson ought to pick a formation now and stick with it. There’s always a temptation to fiddle but it never comes off. Players prefer to know the basic set-up; it encourages continuity, awareness and confidence.
When asked if after having successfully poached Costa from Brazil he wishes the RFEF had done the same with Messi, Del Bosque said: “There was an attempt to do that at the time but he made a decision to stick with the country of his birth; he remained steadfast”.
Costa is not the most popular player outside of Chelsea, but Wayne Rooney is also a big fan of the controversial forward.
“I actually voted for him as player of the year last season because I think he was a huge player for Chelsea”.
“They are ideal matches for us to prove our worth”.
Spain also announced they will play a friendly against Romania on March 27.
However Del Bosque insists the Blues poor form can not be pinned on the former Atletico Madrid man.
The coach insists he’s not sticking with Costa because he owes him anything, but being selected despite his form hints otherwise. Athletic’s Aritz Aduriz has seven goals in La Liga this season, one less than Cristiano Ronaldo, and performance-wise he is the best option Spain have.
Unfortunately, he turns 35 in January, and Del Bosque is reluctant to select him because of that.
Hodgson will stand by Rooney despite a growing doubt whether he can still do it at the highest level.
Furthermore, his frequent support of independence for Catalonia from Spain is another issue for the fans.
A 2-1 win in favour of England can be taken at 17/1 (BetVictor) and this makes plenty of appeal, with Vardy’s pace likely to trouble the Spanish defence if indeed Hodgson decides to let the Leicester man loose in Alicante.
While there are certainly a few interesting World Cup 2018 qualifiers games this week, we can’t help but watch a few of the best talents in the world partake in a few global friendlies as well!
