Wayne Rooney prepared for FA Cup fight
And it is understood that the United boss is ready to fight on despite being hounded down the tunnel by angry fans following Saturday’s defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford.
Britain’s Guardian newspaper earlier reported that the club’s executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, had persuaded the Dutchman to stay following the 1-0 defeat which resulted in fans booing the team and Van Gaal off the pitch.
The 26-year-old, who has 54 worldwide caps for his country, has scored an impressive 13 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit this season.
But the Northern Irishman defended Van Gaal, who is under pressure at Old Trafford, per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.
However, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager’s biographer has revealed that nothing of the sort will be taking place anytime soon.
In his other transfer manoeuvrings, Woodward has looked like a guy excited to be playing real life fantasy football from the moment he was put in charge of United’s transfer kitty, with his story of transfer near misses turning United into a laughing stock.
Clement does, however, believe Van Gaal is the right man to lead United, despite the uncertainty surrounding his position following a sixth Premier League loss of the season.
“When you manage Liverpool you know the Manchester United job is gone”, he said.
“Manchester United going back to the 1950s played in a certain way”, he added.
“I think it’s a lot about the players as well”, he continued.
Derby County manager Paul Clement will be calling on the help of mentor Carlo Ancelotti as he plots Manchester United’s FA Cup downfall.
There are plenty of names being linked with Louis van Gaal’s job at Manchester United, but Brendan Rodgers’ certainly is among them.
Louis van Gaal has seen off another possible successor.
“I know you need a big squad but there can come a point where you have too many players”.
United are now fifth in the Premier league standings, 10 points behind leaders Leicester City.
