Wayne Rooney’s critics are “crazy” says Newcastle striker
Paul Scholes feels “loads better” after watching Louis van Gaal’s side perform like a Manchester United team of old against Newcastle.
The Dutchman saw his side score three times and still not win as Newcastle fought back to snatch a 3-3 Premier League draw at St James’ Park on a night when the United boss could hardly claim to have been bored.
United skipper Wayne Rooney open his side¿s account by scoring a penalty in the ninth minute before midfielder Jesse Lingard doubled the lead in the 38th minute of the match, the Guardian reported.
Critics of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney are “crazy” and “don’t watch football”, according to Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
“If he doesn’t score in a few games, then the team don’t play well and he can not play well”.
Van Gaal believes that this was a poor display by his side, and that this result nearly felt like a loss.
He said: “We were talking about “Boring, boring United” and Newcastle having questionable character – I think both teams showed that that’s not true”. They have cost us two points, so we’re disappointed.
“It’s about finding that balance so we’re not giving away these sloppy goals at key times in the game and we need to make sure we’re switched on”, Smalling said.
“If you take a two-goal lead, we should be taking all three points and killing the game off”, he said.
“We threw it away, I have told that to my players”, Van Gaal added.
After Chancel Mbemba conceded a dispute penalty in the first half and the Magpies were denied a spot-kick themselves, Dummett said: “It was a harsh penalty and we should have had a penalty in the first half when Daryl was fouled by Lingard”.
“Sometimes it s hard, but on nights like tonight (Tuesday) we did it so we need to keep working and keep trying to improve”.
United’s inability to finish off the game means they now have just one win from their last eight EPL matches and van Gaal admitted that he is frustrated with his players.
“I do not agree with the analysis of many, many people – we are always attacking and also attacking away”.
