Wayne Rooney Second Place Among Premier League’s All-Time Scorers
Rooney scored the game victor in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City, moving himself past Andrew Cole with his 188th career goal in England’s top flight.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that he is considering bringing in new strikers in the upcoming transfer window in order to strengthen their goal-shy attack.
On Saturday, Manchester United finally managed to beat a team and it was moment of pure brilliance from club captain Wayne Rooney, that sent them on their way.
Louis van Gaal admits he may dip into the January transfer window to buy a new striker.
“I am very happy that we won the match and happy that we scored two handsome goals”. On Rooney’s goal, the victor which saw United take three points for the first time since November, Young said, “it was a great finish, it was striker’s instinct to get there and put it away”.
Young’s cross was met by Anthony Martial for United’s opener as the winger was one of the best player’s on the pitch before coming off injured in the second half.
Again Young was involved in a telling capacity as his cross was perfectly delivered for Martial, who had drifted into a more central position, to score with a powerful downward header from eight yards which bounced up and past Lukasz Fabianski to give the young Frenchman his eighth goal of the season.
Van Gaal must have sensed the boos were coming for him after the final whistle.
ON ROONEY SURPASSING LAW’S UNITED GOALS TALLY: “It’s fantastic, and at the age of 30 years”.
ON UNITED’S CHARACTER AFTER SWANSEA EQUALISED: “Of course you could see there was a little drop in the team, but they had enough courage to continue and that you have seen”. He wants to play, but I can imagine that he can’t always play. “That is a positive sign”. Andre Ayew’s header against a post from Sigurdsson’s cross raised the anxiety levels and with 20 minutes to go United were pegged back. A lot of teams come here to defend.
Swansea was causing problems down United’s left, where halftime substitute Matteo Darmian was being overrun, and the goal came from that flank.
The visitors would not have to wait much longer to restore parity, however, as Modou Barrow’s cross found Sigurdsson, who flicked a header expertly over De Gea and into the far corner.
