Wayne Rooney to discuss England return with Gareth Southgate
Only Alan Shearer has more Premier League goals, he attained 260 for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle from 1992/93 until his retirement in 2006. Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe is the closest active player still in the Premier League, and he’s on 158 goals. “No, I have always put a shift in for the team, I’ve always done that, and tonight was no different”.
“I wouldn’t necessary call it a bold decision to not play Wayne Rooney anymore, but if I were in charge of the national team I would call Wayne up and say, “thanks very much”.
He last played against Scotland on 11 November and Gareth Southgate has left him out of his last two squads.
According to report in BBC, Rooney, 31, looked to have given Everton victory after he slid Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s square pass between City keeper Ederson’s legs from eight yards.
City nearly won it in the final seconds of the game but Davy Klaassen made a timely clearance from a unsafe cross away for a corner.
“I’m not going to talk [about] the referees, please…it’s so clear, so I don’t want to talk with the referee”.
Sterling gave City energy after coming on as a halftime substitute.
Raheem Sterling scored City’s equaliser, striking a volley past Jordan Pickford following a poor defensive header from Mason Holgate.
That luck perhaps came with the red card for Walker but Everton faced relentless pressure from a City team down a man. They failed to convert a stream of opportunities until Sterling’s late intervention, and conceded from its first and only real chance given up. Should he keep up his fine form throughout the season, there is a possibility that Everton will have a good run in domestic and European games.
He scored 15 league goals for the Toffees before joining Manchester United in 2004.
Rooney then used Twitter to poke fun at Manchester City fans, who met his goal celebrations with some unkind gestures at the Etihad.
