The keynote speaker for the event is Carrie L. Acklin, an instructor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and substance abuse clinician at Centerstone of Illinois.

Monday, Jan. 16, with a parade on South Jefferson, starting in front of Capital City Bank. From 10 a.m.to 3 p.m., the Children’s Museum in Easton, 9 Sullivan Ave., North Easton, is offering hands-on activities and a community art project that will be a reminder of King’s dreams.

The First Congregational Church will show the movie “13th” at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15. The event will conclude with entertainment and light refreshments at the recreation center.

“Even though Mount Emory Baptist Church has been the leader of the Dr. Martin Luther King Day program for many years, we want to encourage other churches to get involved with the celebration and to stay involved”.
