We deserve the best; We have Anil Kumble with us: Anil Kumble
Kohli speaks about Anil Kumble’s appointment as head coach of Indian cricket team.
The BCCI’s cricket advisory committee, appointed to pick the India coach, carried out interviews with about ten candidates on Tuesday in Kolkata. While Kumble made a presentation reportedly chalking out his plans for the 2019 World Cup and to make India a No. 1 Test side, Shastri interacted with the committee via video conferencing.
Kumble was among 57 candidates who applied for the position advertised by the BCCI earlier this month.
Anil Kumble, on whom a major road in Bangalore is named after, pipped biggies like Ravi Shastri, Australia’s Tom Moody and Stuart Law and many others.
The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee comprising three of India’s greats – Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and V V S Laxman – were entrusted the job of picking the right candidate for the top post.
The BCCI said that given to his huge knowledge and experience, it confident that Kumble would take Indian cricket forward and contribute to its growth and success.
India are due to play England in five Tests later this year.
Kumble will take over with the upcoming tour of West Indies from July 9. I think we have used the services of best players who have served Indian cricket.
“They shortlisted a few names, which were suggested to BCCI”.
“Need to sit down with Sourav, Sachin, Laxman and Dravid and need to do what is best for Indian cricket”. Prior to this, he has mentored 2 IPL franchises – Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He finished as India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests, and the third-highest overall, with 619 wickets, including a best of 10 for 74 against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.
“Anil Kumble is now transforming himself from being the great on the cricketing field to becoming the great coach that we expect him to be”, he said.
“This is the first time that we have gone through a process starting with advertisements”.
Team India, remained without coach since the ICC World Twenty20 after Ravi Shastri’s contract as a team manager ended after the tournament.
