We need better gun control in the United States
This room held my grandfather’s hunting rifles and a bow and arrow. I understood hunting back in the day when one had to hunt if they were going to have meat on the table.
I wouldn’t stand in the way of, or judge, a woman who decides to have an abortion.
“I was in that position during the Virginia Tech shooting and the Gabby Giffords shooting and a lot of other shootings, and that was also the time that the Supreme Court took up the Second Amendment cases out of D.C. and Chicago”, Helmke said. The US system has a way of diverting public attention to issues like the threat of global terrorism, while at the same time, downplaying domestic issues that involve gun control laws and a need for better social governance. Guns are objects owned by a large number of Americans.
With each mass shooting, Congress reignites a longstanding debate on gun control.
In the eyes of the world, the USA has failed to set an example as it repeatedly ignores its gun control issues, failing to take any initiative whatsoever.
America and Texas have tried the “more guns is better” experiment – and it’s not working. Kim Stolfer, president of Firearm Owners Against Crime, explains why he fights for the rights of Pennsylvania’s gunowners. Banning semi-automatic weapons or high-capacity ammunition is a slippery slope they insist. Not only has this made more guns available tor burglars, but also more people are killed to settle domestic arguments when a gun is handy, by accident, and by children playing with the guns. They are a means to defend ourselves, not to wage war. Well, he believes the answer is to have the police visit them and found out why in the heck they “need” to practice their Second Amendment rights to such an extent. The 1934 National Firearms Act does impose an excise tax and registration requirements for certain weapons, including machine guns and silencers, which must be registered under the NFA. How can we justify civilians having a weapon that can kill dozens in a few seconds? The difference in potential damage caused by these two classifications of guns is immeasurable. In 2017, gun ownership is optional. Gun control is one of these topics that ignites public interest for several weeks, maybe a couple months, and then dissipates from the public eye. “Oh, and she said the same founders who thought a ‘well-regulated militia” was a good idea would have never expanded gun ownership to blacks because of the whole slavery situation.
Over the summer, I shot a handgun for the first time. “I think we deserve-I think we need to be protected down here”. Confiscated guns included such venerable hunting arms as the Remington 1100, Ruger 10/22, Mossberg 500 and Browning A5.
And I know I’m not alone. And so do millions of other Americans who have grown up the same way. It nearly seems that America is OK with not doing much. 55% of us have shot a firearm at some point.
That’s what I thought within hours of the tragedy in Las Vegas – before the families of numerous victims had even been notified – when Democrats abandoned all decency by ghoulishly using the tragedy to attack a nemesis.
Note, too, that the Australia confiscation that Pfeiffer promotes wasn’t at all focused on so-called “assault weapons”. These weapons destroy whatever lies in their path.
“These were four of the five most popular movies in America when mass murderer Stephen Paddock modified his firearm into an automatic weapon and mowed down [58] innocent people from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel”.
Our country has been devastated by the incorrect use of guns. But ordinary Americans – who mourned friends and family, who queued to give blood in their hundreds, who attended these candlelight vigils – tend to disagree.
Would more laws have prevented the massacres at Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Orlando, and Las Vegas? The crimes at Route 91 Music Festival, Columbine High School, Aurora Theater, Sandy Hook Elementary, and Pulse Nightclub, among too many others, can not be forgotten. Safe and effective gun laws, protecting Americans from gun deaths and injuries, whether intentional or accidental, should be a priority and a nonpartisan issue. Instead, we must find a middle ground.
A gun assures your own self-defense only if the bad guy cooperates.
Of the 200 constitutionally based democratic style nations in the world today only three contain a citizen’s “right to bear arms” provision.
