‘We’re All Mexican’ YouTube Video Puts Positive Spin On Immigrant Group’s
Estefan, a 19-time Grammy victor , said, “There’s a message being sent out to the world where people are giving opinions that are plain wrong”.
The reality TV star/real estate mogul sparked controversy in June (15) when he launched his campaign for the White House and declared many Mexicans living in the USA are “rapists” and drug dealers who have only brought crime into the country.
The racist and xenophobic statements against Mexicans served as an inspiration for Estefan’s creation of the anthem, which celebrates the contributions of Hispanic immigrants to the United States. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems [to] us. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world what we’re doing”.
The song is not available for commercial purposes, however the video can be watched on YouTube.
Collaborating in the production were Emilio’s wife, Gloria Estefan, and other big Latino music stars including Wisin, Pitbull, Thalia, Carlos Santana, Carlos Vives, Jeancarlos Canela, Natalia Jimenez, Rita Moreno and Pepe Aguilar, the producer’s publicist said.
The song is transformed into a “metaphor” that symbolizes that we can all become victims of racism and intolerance at any time, like the Mexicans are right now, Estefan said.
Along with the famous personalities, “We’re All Mexican” features images of Hispanic people living their own American dreams – graduating from college, celebrating with families, and waving American flags. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and Guillermo Rodriguez from “Jimmy Kimmel Live” also appeared in the clip.
Unfortunately, the most you’ll get out of this is that Mexico gave us the best frijoles and lip-smacking guacamole in all the land.
Estefan said he wrote the track in response to the heightened bigotry and anti-Hispanic sentiment he saw in media.
