We’re Totally Inspired by the Zendaya Barbie Doll
No, seriously. The official Barbie Twitter page announced the “K.C. Undercover” star will be a one-of-a-kind doll. Zendaya will host the Barbie Rock ‘N Royals concert this month, an experiential event benefiting VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
Designers at Barbie are honoring actress/singer Zendaya Coleman for fighting back against controversial remarks made about her headline-grabbing look at the 2015 Oscars ceremony. “It’s a positive message to send to my fans, including my nieces who are coming with me to the concert”.
Earlier this year, Barbie introduced more diversity into their Fashionistas® line including twenty-three new dolls, featuring eight skin tones, fourteen different sculpts, eighteen eye colors and twenty-three different hair colors. “Thank you for raising your voice – the Barbie team”, they wrote.
Coleman has never been shy about expressing herself, so the collaboration with Barbie is fitting as they continue to push their Raise Your Voice initiative. “Get your tickets by clicking the link our bio.#BarbieOriginalArt”.
The doll honors Coleman’s 2015 Oscars getup – dreadlocks and all – in which she took a stand and inspired individuals to be themselves.
“When I was little, I didn’t have one that looked like me, so I couldn’t connect with her in that way…But getting to visit the Mattel offices and see Barbie’s vision for the future…it was really cool”. Toy company Mattel is commemorating this by making a Barbie in her resemblance. “I left the office feeling it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of“.
