We should welcome Syrian refugees
The letter, from the Workplace of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), told state resettlement officers in that they may not deny advantages & services to refugees based mostly on their country of origin or faith. Twenty-six of these governors joined me in sending a letter to President Obama urging him to suspend efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in the United States until steps had been taken to affirm the integrity of our security screening process for refugee resettlement. A number of Governors around the country-including Greg Abbott in Texas-have ordered humanitarian groups to stop cooperating with the program when it comes to Syrian refugees-out of fear terrorists might be using it to slip in to the United States.
In the process of passing a bill to halt President Obama’s proposed resettlement of 10,000 Syrian refugees, Jeb Bush suggested a religious test for Syrian refugees to ensure that Muslims are kept out; Ben Carson compared refugees to “rabid” dogs; Chris Christie insisted that the USA not even accept 5-year-old orphans; and Donald Trump proposed deporting Syrian refugees already in the US and even creating an identification system for Muslims in America. Several federal agencies, including the State Department, Homeland Security, Defense Department, National Counterterrorism Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are involved.
These concerns among others compelled me to request that refugee resettlement agencies in Nebraska refrain from pursuing plans to resettle Syrian refugees in our state until these security concerns have been addressed.
If we do allow the refugees and there are terrorists in the midst, the next question should be: Whom should we hold accountable? A fact sheet from the U.S. State Department notes that to be considered for admission, each referred refugee must undergo security evaluation as well as fact- and document-checking; have a sponsor organization; and be interviewed by an officer of Homeland Security’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

USA governors’ calls to stem the flow of Syrian refugees into the country may not improve security and has chilled the atmosphere for such immigrants, a MA congressmen and activists said after a Tuesday roundtable with law enforcement.
Ryan, a US Representative for Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district, assembled a task force on Tuesday to work on legislation dealing with Syrian refugees that the House could vote on as soon as Thursday. The checks are taking place frankly during the whole time of the processing overseas, so from the moment that we receive the case until the person gets on the plane, these checking processes are taking place.
The French Government has said that one of the terrorists in the Paris attacks was posing as a refugee. “I want to know where they came from, I want to know where they’re going and why they’re here”. This video includes an image from The White House / Cecil Stoughton.
Mulvaney, though, also issued a statement regarding the need to protect Syrian Christians who would be affected by a refugee program pause and vowed his support to find refuge for Syrian Christians.
