We were unlucky not to win against Chelsea, says Wayne Rooney
Liverpool great Steven Gerrard has urged Manchester United to move for a striker in the transfer market following another limp offensive showing in the Premier League.
In the second of the game that ended in a goalless draw, Rooney caught Oscar’s leg with the botto of his boot and was shown a yellow card by referee, Martin Atkinson. “There’s too much pressure on Wayne Rooney, Martial’s very young, Depay’s very young”, Gerrard said.
Rooney was forced to say sorry afterwards but insisted: “It was accidental”.
“Van Gaal’s United have never been easy on the eye”, he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We have to fight to the end, we’ll keep fighting, we’ll come back again but at the minute it’s tough and we have to keep working hard”.
“Of course”, Rooney said when asked if Van Gaal still had the backing the United squad. We’d be letting ourselves down if we didn’t go out on the pitch and play football and give our all.
“You see the fans, they follow us everywhere and we wouldn’t be professional players if we didn’t do that”.
“You can not think it’s not possible to get relegated, but we look forward, and we think that soon we will get the winning flow”.
“We’ve had three games now without losing, so are making the right steps”.
The Red Devils hit the woodwork twice in the first half but were ultimately unable to find a breakthrough as they made it eight games without a victory.
‘I didn’t see the tackle, but from what I’ve heard it was a bit high. We’re going through a tough time but we’ve all stuck together and put up a great fight. “It’s fine now, we’ve just not been getting results”.
