‘We will not rest’ until Louisiana cop shooting suspect is found
Update: Grover Cannon went before Judge Ramona Emanuel via video link Friday morning.
Police widened their search for a 27-year-old man accused in the Wednesday night shooting death of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley, pledging not to rest until the “coward” is caught.
The declaration was made at around 3:30 p.m. neighborhood time (CT) in a Facebook post by the state police.
Corporal Marcus Hines, spokesman for the Shreveport Police Department, said: “He may have been consuming a hard beverage”. He was later pronounced dead at University Health. Investigators described the suspect as a dark male with a low haircut and were following up sightings of a man spotted running in the area. He FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture, according to media reports.
Police in northwest Louisiana say an officer has died after being shot while on duty, and a manhunt for a suspect is under way. “No matter where he goes we will find him”, Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw said at a news conference.
The LaValley shooting wasn’t the first Cannon was allegedly involved in, even this summer. The suspect was already wanted in a case related to a shooting which took place in July.
Detectives believe Cannon got into a dispute with a 45-year-old man, wounding him at least three times.
Cannon faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, domestic abuse battery and felon in possession of a firearm.
20th officer killed this year in U.S.
The officer’s death is the 20th this year at the hands of violent suspects in the United States.
Over the weekend, a Memphis police officer was shot and killed during a regular traffic stop.
Shaw said LaValley came to his office while working at the television station and said he’d applied for a job but had not been hired. When he approached the vehicle, a passenger confronted him.
