We will work like your employee, Mamata Banerjee tells industry
“As far as our government is concerned, we will support you from our side, for development and progress of West Bengal. Bengal’s people are known for their intellect. If Bengal follows a policy that is business friendly, then the original glory of the state can always be restored”, Jaitley, who is the keynote speaker at the event, said.
In the run-up to the summit, the Bengal government had organised an investment road show in New Delhi in September.
Jaitley was seen seated at the left side of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while Kejriwal sat at the right side of Banerjee beside Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
Speaking at the Bengal Global Business Summit, Banerjee during the day described Bengal as an ideal destination for investments asserting there was no communal tension.
Alleging inaction over the Malda riots that broke out in West Bengal on January 3 during a protest rally, activists of the Hindu Jagran Manch burnt West Bengal CM’s effigy at the Ghantaghar in Chandausi area here.
Highlighting the advantages of doing business in the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already welcomed investors from the country and overseas to exploit the opportunities offered by her government.
Bangladesh commerce minister Tofail Ahmed and British Minister of State for Employment Priti Patel are also scheduled to attend the summit.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are engaged in a bitter war in Delhi. Kejriwal would be present at the inauguration ceremony, according to official sources.
The summit will include plenary sessions, addressed by national and global entrepreneurs of stature and sectoral breakaway sessions-with participation from leading industrialists of each sector.
Exuding confidence about the success of the summit ASSOCHAM President Sunil Kanoria stressed on the need for knowledge-based service industry hub.
