We won’t look down, nor stare but look into eyes: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the third and last day of his visit to Malysia that marked the beginning of the bilateral phase, held delegation-level talks with Malaysian Premier Najib Razak, following which the two leaders held a joint press conference.
The Prime Minister will return to New Delhi ahead of the winter session of the Parliament that begins on November 26.
Later, Modi tweeted that he presented the Singaporean Prime Minister a reproduction of a map of the island of Singapore dating back to 1849.
Modi’s visit also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and India this year, and underscores the excellent and longstanding ties between the two countries.
The MoU in the area of civil aviation will enable the two countries to cooperate in several areas of civil aviation services and airport management, starting with Jaipur and Ahmedabad airports.
India is now the bright hope to sustain Asia’s prosperity, Modi said even as he sought a global front against terrorism. They are scaling up trade and investment; speeding up air and maritime connectivity and costal development; smart city development and urban rejuvenation; skills development and capacity building; and state focus to strengthen business and cultural links.
He was confident the Torana Gate which was identical to the design of the “Great Stupa” at Sanchi, India would swiftly become a tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur.
He said Singapore’s Indian pioneers include G. Sarangapany, who came here from Tamil Nadu in 1924, founded the Tamil “Murasu” newspaper, and sold it at one cent a copy so that the poor could read it too, Channel News Asia reported.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of India and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) of Singapore also signed an MoU on cooperation to combat illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substance and their precursors. I use to say that when I will get the responsibility will see, but I assured them that we won’t look down nor we will stare but will look into their(foreign nations) eyes.
Addressing the Indian community later in the day, Modi said he wants to work on the paths of development. “And, we will upgrade our partnership agreements and work for an early conclusion of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement”. Modi also said that rupee bonds to fund infrastructure projects will be launched in countries like Singapore.
