Wearing a hairband on your wrist could be damaging your health
Like many women, Audree Kopp, from Louisville in the U.S. state of Kentucky, kept a hair tie on her wrist – often out of necessity or forgetting to remove it. Instead, you can wear them loosely around the wrist and choose not to go with anything that’s sparkly or hard to clean. The doctors said the most probable cause of the condition was her hair tie. She said it kept growing, becoming redder and looking worse.
Despite the antibacterial treatment, the bump on Kopp’s arm continued to grow bigger.
At that point Kopp went to her local accident and emergency clinic.
As the lump got increased in size and redness, she went to her doctor who prescribed antibiotics, but they failed to tackle the infection.
If there’s one piece of bad news that can strike fear in the heart of women (and men with man buns), it’s this: Wearing hair ties on your wrist could be hazardous to your health.
They explained that bacteria on hairbands can easily pass onto the wrist and into the blood stream via pores in the skin and hair follicles.
“Please share this, because I’m pretty sure about 90% of us females don’t think twice about keeping hair ties on our wrists (obviously I won’t be doing it anymore)”.
Eventually, it became so painful Ms Kopp was taken to hospital, where medics rushed her into surgery. “She [the doctor] was shocked to find out I had 3 bacteria… strep, staph and poly negative (which is severe and typical antibiotics can not help)”.
In the video he warns: “Be careful when you put these hair ties around the wrist particularly because it can cause problems with the skin and it can cause infection”.
It left Ms Kopp with a large open wound on her arm, but doctors said she is recovering well.
