Weather reporter mocked for impassioned performance
There were also calls, via an online petition, for the “next storm in Ireland to be called after Teresa Mannion”.
Another said: “It looked like Storm Desmond was holding her entire family hostage and their safety depended on how she delivered that report!”
Mannion, who has worked as a reporter for more than 25 years, said she can understand in hindsight why the report has been seen as “comedy gold”.
As she delivered the report, she was forced to compete with the heavy rain and wind which battered her during the brief segment. “I do not know if they are strong swimmers or not, that is not the case, if any one of them got into difficulties there was no one there to do anything for them”.
Ms Mannion said she was “gobsmacked” at the reaction, after gaining 3,000 followers on Twitter.
Twitter users suggested she should win “multiple awards”, but only after she had “had a hot whiskey or three”.
