Weather warning for Bristol as torrential rains expected
Kent is bracing itself for a battering later this week – with torrential downpours, lightning and even flooding predicted for parts of the county.
A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office with forecasters predicting thunderstorms in the Herts & Essex region.
The thundery conditions are set to hit the East Midlands due to an area of low pressure expected to develop near Spain over the next 12 hours.
A weather warning is due for heavy rain.
The forecaster warned of the possibility of localised surface water flooding, as well as minor disruption to road travel and outdoor activities. Up to 50mm may fall locally by the end of Thursday.
Localised thunderstorms may develop across the south and east of England during Friday afternoon, these potentially giving 15-25mm of rain in a few hours. “Lightning may be an additional hazard”, it said.
“The rain will probably turn more persistent, with heavy thundery bursts possible by dawn”.
The rain is expected to ease from the west during the evening and likely to be confined to eastern areas of the country by the end of Friday.
“The development of this system is very complex, and uncertainty in the details of this event is relatively high”.
