Wednesday Entertainment Buzz: Nancy Drew may return to TV, Cate Blanchett
If greenlit, it’s easy to imagine Nancy Drew being paried with another CBS show starring an iconic female crime fighter, Supergirl (should the latter receive a second season order). Entertainment Weekly notes that MacGyver, The X-Files, Full House, Twin Peaks, Prison Break, Heroes, and of course, The Muppets have been given comebacks lately.
The character has traditionally been depicted as a young sleuth, but the new series will place the private eye in her 30s, EW reports.
Nancy Drew was created by writer Edward Stratemeyer in 1930, and has since featured in a number of books written underneath the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene. The series starred Pamela Sue Martin as Drew. Have you got high hopes for this one, fans? There have been five feature films and three television shows, according to Deadline. Uh… okay. While this initial description sounds (let’s be honest) pretty bland, fans of the classic books have something to look forward to: playing around in Nancy Drew’s world (that isn’t the 2007 adaptation). They seem to have doubts that a Nancy Drew series can survive.
“Grey’s Anatomy” alums Joan Rater and Tony Phelan will co-write and produce it alongside Dan Jinks, said The Hollywood Reporter. Maggie Dawson also played the role in a 2002 television movie, followed by Emma Roberts (her aunt Julia is still a “Pretty Woman) on the big screen in 2007”.
