Wenger calls for swift response following Arsenal’s ‘nervous’ opening day defeat
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has blasted his players following their 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Bilic had nothing but praise for his team’s performance saying that “it could not have gone any better” after a remarkable 2-0 win against Arsenal at The Emirates.
A free-kick from the right lofted in by Dimitri Payet was met by Kouyate with Cech rushing from his line and flapping at the ball, Cech was again at fault when he was wrong footed when Zarate fired in from 20-yards.
Cech’s shaky debut was hardly reassuring for Wenger, who hoped the Czech’s £10 million ($15 million) signing from Chelsea would prove a crucial addition as Arsenal chase their first title since 2004.
But despite winning on the opening day last season, Arsenal managed just one win from their first four games of the campaign which left them way off the pace. I’m really pleased for the lad and I’m sure all his mentors all the way up, and his family as well, they’re pinching themselves as well.
However Cech, who moved to the north London outfit following his transfer from Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea earlier this summer, is unfazed by his forgettable league debut for Gunners and is raring to make amends.
“I haven’t seen De Gea in training but it was Van Gaal’s decision, I think De Gea wants to finish his bad situation – whether that is with Real Madrid or still at Manchester United”.
But this was a disastrous start to the season not just for Cech, but for Arsenal. West Ham looked a bit sharper than us, more advanced in preparation than us. Standing at an imposing 6-feet-3-inches, he looks far from a kid, and his play today proved he can be a man on the pitch.
That said though, it would be unfair to put too much pressure on the young shoulders of Oxford and manager Slaven Bilic will certainly be acknowledging this fact.
He insisted, “I can only repeat what I’ve said: if an exceptional solution turns up, we will do it. We bought and still lost the game today”.
Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett told the club’s official website: “We are delighted to have brought Emi to the club for the season”. I’ve said that before already, especially after the Community Shield game.
