Wenger happy to see Arsenal win group as PSG fluff lines
Arsenal are already through to the last 16 but need a minor miracle to finish above Paris Saint-Germain as group winners.
Having Giroud available makes it possible for Wenger to rest Sanchez.
“But the best way when a guy is in good success and confidence, it’s more unsafe to stop him than keep him going”. I have a few more hours, but my main priority will be to win the game. Alexis Sanchez, who helped himself to a hat-trick in the space of 14 minutes and 29 seconds, is, arguably, in the form of his life. He scored over 20 goals in Spain a year ago, and showed tonight why.
Wenger has revealed he could start Sanchez.
Both players have continued to prove their importance to Arsenal so far this season, and while Arsene Wenger will be desperate to avoid losing his top two players, he has set a marker out by suggesting that the Gunners won’t bow down to financial demands. However, the forward’s future is in doubt, along with playmaker Mesut Ozil.
On the other hand, Basel should start with their regular starting line-up, that means two Xhaka brothers, Granit and Taulant will again fight against each other.
“We made a great result to be top of this group which is what we wanted”, Wenger told BT Sport.
‘Because the players, wherever they play, make good money at this level.
Silverware has become harder to come by of late, though, with back-to-back cup triumphs in 2014 and 2015 helping to end a nine-year barren run. In the midfield, Santi Cazorla will miss the encounter for his injury and Francis Coquelin is also suspended for the game as he picked up a Yellow card in the previous game.
According to reports, via the Evening Standard, both players are demanding parity with the Premier League’s top earners, including Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Wenger sounded confident his star duo will eventually sign new deals.
“You never know what’s going to happen”.
Should Arsenal fail to better PSG’s result, they will finish second, and potentially face a tougher test than their French counterparts in the knockout stages.
Beyond the tightest group of the season, the final round of games is all about securing pole position as group winners and a theoretically softer last-16 draw.
Ozil was the assist maker last season, notching up 19 assists as Arsenal finished second in the Premier League. “But then Arsenal scored and it changed so fast and made them pay”.
It’s a huge six or so months in Arsenal’s future with the future’s of Ozil, Sanchez and Wenger still up in the air.
