Wenger not satisfied with doping test standards
Arsene Wenger wants blood tests introduced in football to stop the possibility of drug cheats.
However, one problem that has always seemed to plague Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger is up front, despite Olivier Giroud’s fairly decent record as the Gunners’ lone front man.
In an exclusive interview with beIN Sports, when asked if he was satisfied with the current level of testing, Wenger said: “No, I’m not”.
“You can not take countries away from Europe and if you want to be elected as Federation Internationale de Football Association president, you need the votes from the African countries, so you want to give more to Africa”.
The Frenchman recently suggested that there is a doping problem in the game.
“One day the clubs could move away and say, ‘Enough is enough, we pay a huge amount of money for our best players so we’ll get them together ourselves and organise our own competitions'”. It’s a little bit surprising.
“What I want is deeper tests, better tests, because what we test is superficial”.
Wenger clarified that he has not witnessed doping in football, but that he has seen a few “strange things” during his career as a manager.
Nevertheless, it’s these five players we believe will be crucial to Arsenal in the next three games for a variety of reasons. “Football is more about mobility, speed of movement, quality of coordination so I don’t think it’s of any use”. It would be very bad for a while but I speak more of justice.
Do the recent events in Russian Federation make you worry about certain countries’ approach to sport?
“We have shown character because we were a bit on the ropes and we responded”, said Wenger, who revealed midfielder Santi Cazorla had been suffering from dizziness during the first half and had to be substituted during the interval. Let’s wait to see what comes out there and let’s see if other countries are involved as well. And they also take no account of the fatigue factor for Alexis Sanchez, Gabriel and Joel Campbell who will be the last Arsenal players to return after a few long haul globe trotting.
“On top of that, I don’t know in track and field but I don’t think in football it helps”.
