Wenger rocked by Arsenal nightmare
Manager Arsene Wenger announced that the 24-year-old Frenchman suffered knee ligament damage in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at West Bromwich Albion.
Santi Cazorla also missed an opportunity to score a late equaliser from the penalty spot, which left Wenger cursing his side’s luck.
And, speaking after the game, a clearly dejected Wenger said: “It was a bad afternoon, we missed a penalty, we gave a goal away on set-piece, that is ideal to make your afternoon a nightmare and we missed open goal chances”.
‘We had chances and a lot of opportunities and we were unlucky as we scored an own goal.
“It’s a shame because we started the game well, we went 1-0 up and then after they scored [twice] before half-time it became more hard for us”. And maybe we had some lapses of concentration when we were 1-0 up.
Boss Arsene Wenger added: “I have seen a few but I don’t really know what happened”.
It is at least a month.
The Gunners must beat Croatian side Dinamo at the Emirates Stadium to keep their hopes alive, but even that won’t be enough to avoid elimination if second placed Olympiakos, who sit six points ahead of Arsenal, draw or win at Bayern Munich.
“I think we still have a strong chance but it will be very tight now”.
Another game and another couple of players were taken off due to injury while not many would fret about Mikel Arteta getting injured, the sight of Francis Coquelin hobbling off will worry most Arsenal fans.
Arsenal were consigned to defeat despite an early goal from Olivier Giroud who, like France team-mate Laurent Koscielny, played eight days after being caught up in the horrific Paris attacks. “I can rotate a bit within the squad but Ramsey will be short and Chamberlain will be short and they are the two closest. But when you’re on the pitch, you’re on the pitch”.
Wenger had indicated before Saturday’s visit to Albion that he expected Ramsey to have recovered by Tuesday from the hamstring trouble that has kept him out of action for the last month, but in the wake of the loss here he said: “It looks hard to have players to come back for Tuesday”. “We needed to get our home form going and to do that against one of the top sides in the league was fantastic”, said Pulis.
