Wenger savours win after testing week for Arsenal
They partly atoned for losing to Liverpool by beating Southampton at the Emirates.
“Overall we had a convincing performance in two different situations”, Wenger told reporters. “So that’s good for the future and now we can concentrate on the next games coming up”.
Sanchez struck late to earn Arsenal a point in the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, and he played an influential role again on Saturday, although he was unable to complete a hat-trick. “We responded well to our first disappointment and hopefully we can build from that”.
The acid test comes on Saturday against Chelsea. They’ve certainly managed to punch above their weight this season, but with Arsenal looking solid both domestically and overseas over their last few matches, Hull might wind up being a welterweight trying to out-punch a heavyweight.
“As a manager, you ideally want all the things to happen in the way you decide, but we don’t live in an ideal world”.
“We are ambitious and have a good attitude and spirit”.
We have to think that we get the supporters behind us when our performances are convincing and not the other way around’.
One player capable of winning over the fans is Alex Iwobi. Walcott crossed for Iwobi, and his shot went in off of Alexis Sánchez. Hull were able to break with Robert Snodgrass who released Abel Hernandez only to see his shot from the left hand side of the box drift wide. Sometimes it’s [Lucas] Perez, then [Alexis] Sanchez, then [Danny] Welbeck and [Theo] Walcott.
“You’ve seen his qualities and I don’t really need to describe that”, Wenger said.
‘It’s something I have always wanted to have a go at’.
“At the moment, they are the better team as well as the most consistent”, he said.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned Nigeria worldwide Alex Iwobi not to let his recent good performances for the Gunners go to his head.
“We’ve only played five games”, added Wenger, who saw Alexis Sanchez score in each half in addition to missing a penalty shortly before the interval, after Hull defender Jake Livermore sent off for handball. That problem still does not seem to have gone away, and that will be a worry for the manager going into the match against Hull, who, like Arsenal, have seven points from four matches, despite a calamitous preseason.
