Wenger: We paid for lack of experience

The Gunners were beaten 3-4 by a resurgent Liverpool side that have seen lots of players join the club unlike Arsenal who yet to bring in quality players. The Reds had won only once in their last 20 league encounters at the Emirates but emerged victorious in a topsy-turvy encounter which has been a regular case for both the teams in recent years when they have come up against each other.

With Liverpool trailing Arsenal 1-0 in the waning seconds of the first half of their season opening game on Sunday, Philippe Coutinho positioned himself behind a long range free kick.

“Football being football, maybe we got a bit complacent at 4-1 but we saw it out in the end”.

“We came in after the first half knowing we could play better”, Henderson said. We came out the traps flying, got the second, third and fourth and then we let them come back in it. At the back we lack a bit of maturity but you know that before we go into the game.

“[It gives us] confidence, not only for me but the whole team”, he told Sky Sports. “But then we strike back and that’s very, very important”, he said.

“It showed we can always score goals, but we can defend much better and that’s what we have to do, of course”.

Still, it’s brilliant that Klopp was able to explain to his players what was going wrong tactically – which enabled us to completely change the game.
