Wentz to start in Week 1 vs. Browns
Carson Wentz ran the Eagles’ offense under pressure by Tampa Bay in the preseason opener.
The Eagles traded high-priced cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami in a deal that also included linebacker Kiko Alonso. Consistently during the workouts, Wentz would get a good pre-snap read, identify the secondary coverage and then quickly get the ball in the hands to a receiver.
That was about the only thing that wasn’t good. Regardless of how much he played or how much the game did, or didn’t, slow down, Wentz is projecting the right attitude for the challenge he’s about to face. Obviously, we’ve been putting more time and more effort into the communication this week, after switching (quarterbacks).
Tension is reportedly growing between quarterback Chase Daniel and the Philadelphia Eagles after the team named Carson Wentz as the starting QB for the 2016 National Football League season. O’Brien also completed 49.3 percent of his passes (think Tim Tebow level), threw for only six touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
But going into Week 1, the Eagles got a chance to get their 2017 and 2018 picks back.
Wentz is not where he would be if the plan all along had been to get him ready to start Week 1. This is why we drafted Carson Wentz.
“The whole time, all along, it was just getting ready for whenever this time would come”, Wentz said. “I’ll probably know more further down this week as far as that goes. I just felt very confident with it, and now it’s here”.
It should be noted that Wentz grew up in North Dakota and played for the North Dakota State Bison.
“It was right for this football team”, Pederson added. “It’s something we believe in and this is why we drafted him”. It has happened only once before and it’s likely not many of you remember because it happened in 1939, when Davey O’Brien started the opener after being taken first overall in the draft. Would an ideal situation be later than sooner? “I’d like to think I’ve learned from my mistakes, and I’m going to do the best I can to help this team win as many games as possible”. “All the pieces are here for him to be successful and for us to win some games”.
“That’s in the past”, Wentz said when asked about the Browns passing up the opportunity to draft him. After the trade, Daniel will remain in that role. Wentz had arrived at 5:15 a.m., which was about 30 minutes before Pederson did and shortly before Daniel, the Birds’ veteran backup, joined him. “They have been great for a little while now. Physically, it’s about his ribs healing and they are healed now”.
A starting quarterback needs to come in and be a leader.
From one second-overall pick to another. McNabb didn’t become a starter until Week 10, while Pederson led the Eagles to a 2-7 start.
“There is definitely enough time to get on the same page”, Kelce said.
While convinced that at some point he would be their ladder to a world championship, which is why they overspent for his draft rights, they were ready to allow him to grow for a full season.
“I don’t like to say the word tough, you know?” said Matthews, who didn’t practice with Wentz until this week. “This is what, as an organization, we believe in”.
“We’ve just got to play our game”, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox said, “and that’s to play fast and get after the quarterback … put our offense in a good position to score”.
Neither can Wentz’s teammates.
