Wes: Isolated showers, storms through Sunday; stronger storms po
Some areas have already seen almost 2 inches of rain and another 2 to 4 inches are possible through Monday.
Rain will begin to mix in with freezing rain early Sunday morning. We could have an isolated storm tomorrow as temperatures rise into the middle 70s. The cold front from this system will swing through later tomorrow, producing additional showers Sunday evening, but also a stiff breeze that will dry things out overnight. So areas with the highest risk for a strong to severe storm in our area looks to be across southwest counties at this time with a more marginal threat further north.
TIMING: The rain and storms should reach West Alabama between 5 a.m. – 7 a.m. on Monday, the I-65 corridor between 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. and East Alabama between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
IMPACTS: I think our primary concern with any strong storm will be damaging straight-line wind gusts and hail. A strong low pressure system from the west moves into our region Monday, bringing more rain and possible storms. Showers should come to an end late in the day Monday. The rain and storm activity should taper off with falling temperatures Monday night. On Friday low temperatures will be in the mid 40s with highs in the mid 50s. Today’s warm front moves back south toward us as a cold front and that will spread additional rain and some thunder into the area.
The front will sag southward today, shifting the rain south with it. Cooler air will then settle in so our temperatures will drop through the day, getting into the lower 40s by this afternoon.
Tuesday will be cloudy and dry with temperatures colder but still a few degrees above average. We’re in the upper 30s and lower 40s this evening, and we won’t fall much.
