West Brom boss Pulis welcomes Liverpool striker Lambert signing
Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert is on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion, according to The Guardian.
Having successfully completed a routine medical examination in the West Midlands on Friday morning, Lambert has now put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
“I think it is very important we get players who score goals and Rickie has a great goalscoring record”, Pulis said.
Lambert is set for his Baggies bow against one of his former clubs in this evening’s friendly at the Memorial Stadium.
Liverpool’s Rickie Lambert (centre) controls the ball against Adam Lallana (left) and Joe Allen during a practice session at the National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, July 13, 2015.
The England global, who will wear the number 17 shirt, becomes the club’s third summer signing, following the acquisitions of James Chester and James McClean.
With the additions of Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Christian Benteke in the past two months, Lambert appears to be surplus to requirements at Anfield.
With Daniel Sturridge missing much of the campaign due to injury, the triumvirate of Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini scored just eight goals between them in all competitions.
The striker was withdrawn after 56 minutes but his brace showed why Baggies boss Tony Pulis was so keen to bring him in.
After successful spells with Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Rochdale, the 33-year-old forward joined Bristol Rovers in 2006.
