West Ham record signing Ayew out for 4 months
Gold took to Twitter to confirm the news that Ayew is facing a lengthy lay-off.
Worryingly for Bilic, preparation time for the long trip east to the Marin Anastasovici Stadium has been in short supply, with the game coming just 72 hours after Monday night’s agonising 2-1 Premier League defeat by Chelsea.
He reiterated that Ayew has “Suffered a significant injury and it is imperative that we don’tt rush to conclusions & we receive the correct diagnosis by consulting top specialists”.
That would mean Ghana worldwide Ayew is unlikely to feature again for his new club until the busy period of festive fixtures towards the end of 2016.
He said: “Andre Ayew injured his right thigh at Chelsea on Monday and underwent a scan on Wednesday afternoon”.
“He will be out for 4 months”.
The club’s head of medical and sports science Stijn Vandenbroucke issued an update on West Ham’s official website.
West Ham, now in Romania ahead of their Europa League qualifier against Astra Giurgiu on Thursday, were awaiting the results of a scan on the injury.
Bilic admitted to the press in his pre-match conference: “We will put out a strong team”.
West Ham reached Europe last season via the Fair Play League, but were knocked out in the qualifying rounds by the same opposition they face this year.
Ayew was hoping to repeat last term’s exploit at Stamford Bridge where he opened his account in a 2-2 outcome, while playing with his former club Swansea against the Blues.
