West Ham’s Carroll facing two weeks on the sidelines
Blackburn v West Ham kicks off at 2.00pm local (01.00am AEDT) with the game streamed live online.
Dimitri Payet has been one of the most joyous signings in Europe this season and the Frenchman could be about to rip Rovers apart.
Slaven Bilic has promised Darren Randolph he will play in the FA Cup final if West Ham get there.
It was Marshall’s fourth FA Cup goal this season, having scored in every round, and his fifth in the last six matches in all competitions on his 100th appearance for the club.
A much-needed boost, but it is hard to see Blackburn’s form really changing with five of their next seven league games against top-eight sides along with the fact that they lost star player Jordan Rhodes to Middlesbrough earlier this month just before the transfer window shut. They will fancy their chances of getting at least a replay, to have the chance to take the Hammers back to the Boylen Ground.
Addressing the timescale for Carroll’s return during a pre-match press conference, Bilic was quoted as saying by the Press Association: “It’s not a big injury, maybe a couple of weeks”.
But co-chairman David Gold hopes the latest setback will not mean another lengthy lay-off for their £15million club-record signing.
Clearly contemplating how well his own side will do in Europe when they inevitably qualify in the next few years, Bilic believes that a week off for the players to have a holiday, followed by another 10-day-long “mini pre-season” would be enough.
Spurs would obviously look a fair bet at 7/10 were this a Premier League game but, having been in Italy on Thursday where a strong side drew with Fiorentina, they’re one of several sides left in this competition who are stretched thin.
“I came to England with the Spain Under-18 team but didn’t get the chance to play there”.
With a place in the quarter-finals at stake the Premier League Hammers are favourites.
Carrol’s injury comes at a tough time for West Ham, who were already without Diafra Sakho (thigh) and also lost Enner Valencia to an ankle injury.
