West Ham United Boss Slavan Bilic Believes Liverpool Can Win Premier League
Liverpool will not be happy with their start to 2016, as they went down 2-0 to Premier League rivals West Ham United in England’s opening fixture of the new year.
Bilic has also labelled Saturday’s opponents, Liverpool, who are a spot above West Ham in seventh place and nine points behind leaders Arsenal, as title contenders. It was classic Carroll, a leaping, expertly-delivered header on 55 minutes and, following Michail Antonio’s own impressive header after only 10 minutes of this contest, sealed a fully deserved win for Slaven Bilic’s men.
Emre Can hit the crossbar late on in the first half but the reds chances were few and far between – most of LFC’s attempts arriving through speculative hits from Coutinho – most being charged down at the edge of the box.
The visitors picked up from where they left off art the start of the second half and following Moreno’s low cross, Benteke really should have done better upon finding himself with time and space to strike from close-range.
And not long after, West Ham doubled their lead.
“It was not enough from my team today because in the decisive moments we were there but we were not there”, Klopp said.
Having won their last two games by narrow margins, Juergen Klopp’s side looked more like the team that took a solitary point from their previous three, with little threat in attack and familiar vulnerabilities in defence.
Liverpool nearly pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining but Lucas’ header was cleared off the line by Mark Noble.
“He is back, he’s been training with us for a couple of days and depending on how he does today, I’m expecting him to be in the squad and available for the game”.
– West Ham are now unbeaten in eight Premier League home games (W4 D4) and have not lost at the Boleyn Ground since August 22nd versus Bournemouth. “Each game you want to win and score goals, it doesn’t matter if it is against a side you have played for”, Carroll told BT Sport.
