West Indies star Chris Gayle ruled out until December
Once again the former champions the Jamaica Tallawahs has fail to reach the finals after losing to Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.
West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has announced that he will be out of all forms of cricket for the next two to three months to address his back problem. The Tallawahs batting crumbled again, as when Chris fails they fail to win, Gayle could only manage a mere 30 runs from 21 balls.
The 35-year-old had issues with his back during the World Cup, missing their clash with the United Arab Emirates and needing an injection to play in their quarter-final defeat at the hands of co-hosts New Zealand. However, Dwayne Bravo ensured that Gayle’s onslaught did not last long and the Red Steel bowlers did not allow the opposition to go ahead.
“I’ll be out for some time you know until December but you [have] got to wish me luck”, Gayle said in a post match interview. Despite the problems, he did well for his other T20 teams as well, scoring 491 runs from 14 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2015 Indian Premier League and then aggregating 328 from just three games for Somerset at the NatWest T20 Blast.
Gayle was quoted as saying by espncricinfo.com: I have a charity game on the 2nd, but after that I will be out of cricket for two to three months.
Should Gayle be sidelined till December as expected, West Indies will miss his services for a yet-to-be-confirmed tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe in August-September. He could be back in December Big Bash League where he is contracted with Melbourne Renegades.
