West Norfolk students collect A-level results
Students at Sheffield College were taking the next steps into their future when they collected their A-level results.
The college’s vocational students all achieved a Distinction* to Pass grade, 97 per cent achieved a Distinction* to Merit grade and 92 per cent achieved a Distinction* to Distinction grade.
“In the face of greater competition for places from universities and employers the students here at Manshead have again responded to this challenge by achieving excellent results”.
Appleby Grammar School reported record results, with headteacher Andrew Lund saying: “We are delighted to report a strong set of A-level results”.
Last year A-level pass rates dropped for the first time in more than three decades, while the proportion of exams awarded the very highest grades rose. “I’m going to go out with family tonight to celebrate”.
Melanie Liu, 18, said she was “ecstatic” at her A in philosopy and ethics, B in history and C in biology, which means she is off to Birmingham University to study sports, physical education and coaching science.
Almost 60 per cent of all grades were A* or A.
Matt Langstroth (18), a former Park High School student who will be studying Medicine at Hull York Medical School, said: “It is not just about the grades at Nelson and Colne College – there is so much going on behind the scenes”.
Headmaster Chris Kirkup said: “I would like to congratulate our students who have done extremely well in their examinations”.
Headmaster Shaun Fenton said: “I am thrilled for our young people that together we have achieved the school’s best ever results, particularly at A*, the top grade which opens doors of opportunity to life changing chances at university“.
Malavika Puri, who joined Rugby from Mumbai for the Sixth Form, achieved D1s in Chemistry and Mathematics, a D2 in Further Mathematics, and an A in Physics.

“The first five Seren hubs will formally start work in September but we know that the work we have done so far to increase admissions to top universities is really starting to pay off”.
Ben added: “I have been more anxious about the reading list than results day if I’m honest”.
