Westbrook posts seventh triple-double of the season
Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook go back to the beginning. And Westbrook, in high gear, is a terrifying sight for anyone standing between him and the rim. They’ll look to extend their two-game winning streak to three against an Oklahoma City Thunder team that they have seen success against the past two years. It was a breathtaking sight. It can be understandable to have inconsistent rotations due to injury, but when the starting point guard doesn’t play most of the fourth quarter and no minutes in overtime, it can be confusing.
Tony Parker had 20 points and Kawhi Leonard scored 19 for the Spurs, who shot 53.3 percent from the field, outscored Washington 23-10 from the free-throw line and led by 19 points in the second half. Westbrook merely saw the door cracked open and kicked it in. Not just because of the statistical accomplishments, but the fact that his team is actually winning more games than they’re losing. It is Westbrook’s fourth triple-double in his last six games.
Westbrook has 15 career 30-point triple-doubles, passing Michael Jordan for the second-most such games over the past 30 seasons.
Westbrook raised his averages to 30.9 points, 11.3 assists and 10.3 rebounds through more than a month of play with his NBA-leading eighth triple-double as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the New York Knicks 112-103 on Monday night. He is the latest evidence as to why star power matters.
The Nuggets tried to combat Westbrook with a bevy of scorers.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kemba Walker scored 28 points, and Jeremy Lamb had 18 points and 17 rebounds, and Charlotte snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory over NY at the Spectrum Center.
Earlier this year, Westbrook found a bit more success, in large part, because he found himself matched up against Ish Smith on numerous occasions. He finished with a triple-double while having 36 points and 18 assists. “My biggest disappointment is that we were never able to consistently get stops”.
“It’s a combination of me getting better as a player and also being patient”, Westbrook said. “Keep going brodie.” This was one of the coolest gestures from one MVP candidate to another. In addition to Westbrook’s poor shooting numbers, he turned the ball over 14 times in just two games.
Victor Oladipo had 26 points for the Thunder. Caldwell-Pope is on a three-game roll in which he is averaging 21.3 points per game and his assist count was stunning as he had only nine total over the previous four games. Enes Kanter is the third double-digit scorer and Steven Adams is grabbing 7.8 rebounds. And his team won.
