Westwood Wants State To Look At Accident-Prone Bridge
This wild video released by the Westwood Police Department shows a truck getting absolutely obliterated by a low-clearance railroad bridge, which is only 10 feet and 6 inches high.
Two years ago, police set up surveillance cameras because of the all the accidents.
“There was a cement truck before that blocked the whole road”, Murphy said.
“This happens all the time”, said resident Sheila Kelly. On Thursday, August 20, it happened again.
Westwood natives have become used to the scene because of how frequently the bridge is hit.
And, in July of previous year, a truck hit the bridge, sending seafood spilling onto the roadway.
An empty produce truck out of Braintree was unable to squeeze under the East Street Bridge, and its roof was sheared off, littering the road with debris.
The crash is under investigation, but the truck driver could be cited for ignoring posted signs.
Town officials told WBZ-TV’s Nicole Jacobs the state will soon begin surveying the area and developing a plan to fix the bridge before starting construction.
