Westworld’s ‘The Well-Tempered Clavier’ Is The Soul Of The Show
By continuing to show us Dolores working her way through the park at three different times, we were able to learn that Arnold is Bernard, William is The Man in Black, and that Dolores is the key to solving it all. Ford was squeezing Dolores hand so much it hurt her. She makes him aware that he needs to find the truth which breaks Bernard’s state of mind of calm that Ford had previously induced in him.
Elsie a programmer at Westworld who specializes in host behavior. The thing about theorizing is that occasionally, you’re going to be right. She killed him! Dolores killed Arnold! Otherwise, it wouldn’t be floating through Westworld while Dolores returns to her storyline loop. After Dolores gets to the church, she enters an elevator disguised as a confessional booth.
On the downside, it’s disappointing to have Ford so quickly and thoroughly best Bernard at his own game, leaving his creation apparently for dead in the Westworld cold storage facility.
Before getting to the philosophical underlying themes here, it’s important to note one more massive Arnold/Bernard note. He wants access to his history.
It could, but it seems more likely that Ford is simply manipulating Bernard/Arnold repeatedly to see how his behaviour changes.
Because Bernard confronted and surpassed his defining cornerstone memory (which is fake), he forces Ford to confront his own, which he doesn’t want to admit is very real. But perhaps the Man In Black’s motives aren’t as nefarious as we originally assumed. So with that in mind, here’s what we hope to see in tonight’s episode. When William asks for Logan to help free Dolores from the park, Logan freaks out and asks William if he remembers his wife, and then shoves her picture in his chest. She grabs a knife and slices Logan across the face. As she’s stumbling, she hears Arnold’s voice telling her to remember, and suddenly, she rises, stomach intact. But we shall see! Maeve prevents it by taking out Armistice with the shotgun. She opens the safe for the bandit, revealing that it’s empty.
In Teddy’s memory, Wyatt convinced him to mutiny and shoot fellow army members. Their blonde captor kills Teddy and knocks the MIB out. He tells her that he is only interested in narratives designed by Arnold. Every now and then, Bernard and Ford will have a confrontation about Bernard’s true nature, but every time, they reconcile and get back to work on the park. About the spire and the excavations Ford’s been doing. Spook the horse and up you go to your hanging. I also think the reveal at the end of the episode between Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and The Man in Black is meant to try and throw us off the scent of the dual-timeline theory, but it hasn’t worked on me. And he also was responsible for keeping Ford in business “all those years ago”. HBO did email me a press release, confirming that they have definitely renewed Westworld for a 2nd season. Yeah, it certainly sounds like something fairly huge is set to go down.
Well, William didn’t so much attack Logan as kill his entire camp in a truly horrific manner. He also commands Logan not to call him “Billy”. If it is possible, will this be the end and the beginning of another season in “Westworld?”. Ford explains she killed herself over a memory.
Bernard is a host copy of Arnold created by Ford years after his partner’s death. We doubt he’s done for good. We later learned her attacker was Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) acting under the orders of his creator Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins). There’s a worry that all the narrative looping and second-guessing can distract and detract from truly engaging with the characters, but the emotional level continues to bubble away under the thoughtful sci-fi coating: the Bernard and Dolores plots still delivered on that front. You can tweak and reshape the dead to suit your purposes.
It turns out Bernard, in fact, is Arnold. This brings us to her next scene, where she’s trekking through Westworld to find him, and we get another close-up of her outfit. Just repeat that in Ed Harris’ voice.
