What A Win – Harry Kane Delights As Late Show Sinks West Ham
Nov 19 First there was Harry Winks, then Harry Kane, as Tottenham Hotspur sprang a 3-2 comeback win over West Ham United that would have done justice to Harry Houdini. Here are five talking points.
Randolph – who earlier produced a truly stunning save to deny Eric Dier with his side 2-1 up – will be disappointed with his part in the goal, diverting the ball into Kane’s path as he attempted to cut out Son’s low centre.
Prolific striker Harry Kane is proud of his leadership skills and dreams one day of captaining both boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur and England.
“You see how we play in possession, we play 3-4-3, or 3-3-1-3”.
Fielding what looked like a rather narrow line-up, Mauricio Pochettino handed Harry Winks a Premier League debut in midfield, with he and Christian Eriksen playing ahead of Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele.
However, Pochettino’s decision to play with an extra man up front meant his side lost something in their build-up play.
But with little more than twenty minutes remaining, Walker clumsily held back Reid and Lanzini emphatically dispatched the resulting spot-kick, sending Lloris the wrong way much to the delight of the 2,300 Hammers fans behind the goal.
Kane is delighted and said on BT Sport: “What a win, it looked like it would be a disappointing afternoon”. When you play without your main striker for 10 or 11 games it’s tough for any team.
“He’s one of the best strikers in the world”.
He has pace, vision, quick feet, deceptive strength and apparently an eye for a goal too.
‘Spurs give young players a chance. He scored the first equaliser, of course, tapping in after Darren Randolph had made a splendid save from Janssen, but his greater worth was in the consistency of his temperament and how willing he was to influence the game – even after Tottenham had fallen behind for the second time and the north London air had grown thick with anxious irritation.
When Kane popped up in the box in the 89th minute to grab a goal, it seemed Spurs had rescued a point, but more was to come.
Pochettino did the merciful thing soon after and ended Janssen’s misery by replacing him with Dele Alli.
“In Denmark, you are sure to play if you are good, but Ajax played you if you did not have the mentality and went 100 per cent into it”.
“Maybe because most of the cabbies are either Spurs or West Ham so when you get in a taxi a few weeks before the game, they let you know who they are”.
With enormous pressure on his shoulders, Kane stepped up and sent the ball into the bottom left hand corner, giving Randolph no chance despite the ‘keeper guessing which way to go correctly. Their supporters had not seen enough to suggest an eighth game without a win was not on its way.
Meanwhile, the Lilywhites are now just one point outside the top four and three points off the top.
