What did New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees say about his
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees said he did not throw Wednesday at practice, but that he has every intention of playing Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
It may be noted that the nine-time Pro Bowler has not missed a game due to injury since 2006, after Andrews performed a major reconstructive shoulder surgery on him in the offseason before he joined the Saints, ESPN also reported. But he said the decision of whether to play will be based more on how he feels and “how effective I can be”.
McCown has been Brees’ backup for two seasons, playing only as a holder on field goals and attempting one pass – an incompletion – on a fake.
The Saints would start veteran Luke McCown if Brees can’t play. And I’m confident that he’ll be up to speed come game time.
The Saints, who haven’t started 0-3 since dropping their first four games in 2012, won 28-10 at Carolina on October . 30.
Although, Brees has admitted that he has an injury, he is adamant that he wants to play through the pain barrier to play in the NFC South showdown.
“Yeah, that’s what you think about when you think of your throwing shoulder, “stated Brees”. “He is a very good athlete.
If you go back to his days even at Tampa (from 2005-2008), he had a win here in the Dome (in 2007)”, Payton said. I have people that I talk to about those processes and continue to throughout the off season. When asked how he felt about possibly being sidelined Brees said: “Not used to it, don’t like it. I’ve obviously dealt with things in the past. The idea is just to make progress every day”, said Brees, who said he has also done strengthening exercises related to the throwing motion.
Notes: Saints receiver Brandin Cooks (ankle), safety Jairus Byrd (knee), cornerback Keenan Lewis (hip), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (toe) and right guard Jahri Evans all were listed as missing practice during full 11-on-11 drills Wednesday.
