What is going on with Hugh Jackman’s face?
The DC Comics supervillain was created in 1967 and is Arthur Curry/Aquaman’s archnemesis. Perhaps Black Manta can help Aquaman be that movie. In the most recent origin story of the Aquaman supervillain, Manta was an autistic orphan subjected to experimental treatments in Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum which left him violent as a result. In the latest reboot, Manta’s father was killed by Aquaman by mistake, thinking that he committed a murder that Manta was ultimately responsible for. Until one particular job changed his life. This drove the villain to have revenge on the DC hero. Essentially, Black Manta is a man, generally depicted with enhanced strength and abilities, who wants to challenge Aquaman to rule the sea.
The character wears a black wetsuit and a bug-eyed helmet. We know that horror director James Wan will be adding some of his scary touch to a bit of the proceedings, but our knowledge of the movie has mostly been limited to brief glimpses in trailers.
Amanda Waller even tried to recruit Black Manta into the Suicide Squad, and it was rumored the character would be played by Common in the movie until it was debunked. Interestlingly, Khary Payton – who voiced Black Manta in Young Justice – is now scheduled to play King Ezekiel in the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. No actor has yet been officially cast in the role.
The solo “Aquaman” movie won’t be out until 2018 but it appears Jason Momoa‘s foe for the film has already been determined.
Directed by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Justice League will debut in theaters on November 10, 2017.
Starring alongside Jason Momoa will be Amber Heard as his Atlantian lover Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Atlantian scientific adviser Nuidis Vulko. Also, James Wan, who is directing the movie, has a knack for insane visuals, and is perhaps the greatest horror director working today.
