What’s Next For Conor McGregor And Jose Aldo After UFC 194?
Conor McGregor didn’t just win the UFC’s featherweight title Saturday night, he won a spot alongside Ronda Rousey on the cover of EA Sports’ “UFC 2” video game.
The loquacious brawler had goaded Aldo throughout the build-up to the much-anticipated fight, which had been delayed in the summer after an injury had kept Aldo from competing.
But while acknowledging making 145 pounds was tough, he rejected the idea of giving up one belt to fight for another.
The two fighters were previously supposed to meet at UFC 189, however Aldo was forced to withdraw due to an injury weeks before the fight and Chad Mendes took his place.
Before he set foot into the Octagon, McGregor was guaranteed a $500,000 pay cheque – win, lose or draw.
Aldo admits he already watched the fight, and also remembers his decision to attack with a combination, creating an opportunity for McGregor to counter. But not even she managed to finish an UFC opponent as quickly as McGregor stopped Aldo. However, unfortunately for Aldo the fight was over nearly as soon as it started.
Aldo was undefeated for 10 years prior to Saturday night, but doesn’t look likely to get an instant shot at redemption, with several other options for the Irishman’s next match-up. Jose Aldo would end up the odd man out, and it’s interesting to note that no one in the UFC is talking about an immediate rematch against Conor. McGregor has also said he wants a crack at the lightweight belt, or that he’d be interested in fighting Edgar in Dublin’s Croke Park. “I’m going to sit back in the shadows over Christmas and plot and I’ll come back in the New Year with something for you all”.
“I’m bringing these numbers, and sky’s the limit”.
“Precision beats power, and timing beats speed”, McGregor told CBS News. Actually, McGregor did a little more-he finished off Aldo in just 13 seconds after connecting with a left to the jaw which sent Aldo tumbling to the floor. Can he do so again by taking both weight-class belts?
“If you can see it, hear it and you have the courage to speak it, it will happen”, McGregor said.
If so, this means that Frankie Edgar could be waiting a bit to get his chance at the title. UFC president Dana White did not attend the post-fight event.
McGregor’s next fight will be a title bout at either featherweight or lightweight.
“I feel for Jose”, McGregor said.
