What should the New Orleans Saints do after humiliating loss at Washington?
Washington’s defense recovered two fumbles against New England, but the Redskins’ offense struggled as quarterback Kirk Cousins went 22 for 40, throwing for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
“We can’t make no excuses for it”, rookie middle linebacker Stephone Anthony said. Washington collected 122 yards on the ground so far with their three backs.
Cousins victimized a porous New Orleans secondary to the tune of 324 yards and four touchdowns. His treatment and weight loss left him unable to travel to any of Washington’s games before this week; he flew into the area Saturday night, and was in the stands during Washington’s 47-14 win. The Saints’ defense ran like a sieve, and everything that Washington did got huge chunks of yardage. In the past two games the veteran quarterback has thrown for 892 yards and 10 touchdowns.
It didn’t work as planned last week when he had three catches for just 15 yards.
And this time, the Redskins’ offense would capitalize with a touchdown.
In the first half, Washington’s offense seemingly could do no wrong – in large part because Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s unit couldn’t do anything right.
Cousins had arguably the best day of his professional career against New Orleans in Week 10. Cousins hit Matt Jones on a 78-yard screen pass for a touchdown, delivering the Saints a dose of their own medicine on a favorite play of theirs in the Payton regime.
It did not take long for Brees to get his team back in it. After back to back double digit yard gains, Brees had time to throw deep to an open Cooks for an easy touchdown. With DeAngelo Hall (right toe) likely back and Chris Culliver (left knee) and Bashaud Breeland (left hamstring) seemingly okay after playing on a rotating basis last week, that lets the Redskins move Will Blackmon to slot corner if they want. For the second straight time, there was excellent blocking from all involved. That finished an eight play, 80 yard drive in 4:48.
It’s another “Code Red” game for the Redskins, who have a home game Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, one of the NFL’s worst defenses. Morris is going to have a good game against the Saints and will finally break out of his slump. Cousins dumped it off to Jones as a checkdown, but the Florida product turned it into a 24 yard chunk play. Dustin Hopkins would connect on a 35-yard field goal to extend the Redskins’ lead to 24-14. No matter how cap-strapped the Saints are, they still manage to get a few big names in free agency. Download our software to New Orleans Saints vs Washington Redskins Live Football match.
