What students, teachers think about Liberty president encouraging students to
According to AL.com, Falwell told students, “It just blows my mind when I see the [P]resident of the United States say that the answer to circumstances like [the shooting in California] is more gun control”.
“Let’s teach them a lesson if they ever show up here”, Falwell told an estimated 10,000 of the campus community at convocation Friday in Lynchburg.
A day later, Falwell tweeted that his remarks only applied to “those Muslims” who commit acts of terrorism.
The final words of his statement could not be clearly heard on a videotape of the remarks.
Falwell has had his permit for about a year, he said to The Associated Press. “Mr. Falwell’s rash and repugnant comments detract from both of those crucial goals”, McAuliffe said.
Falwell, whose father Jerry Falwell Sr. was an evangelical Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and conservative political commentator, urged students to take free classes offered by the university’s Police Department to obtain a concealed weapon permit, the newspaper reported.
Falwell also said he has reached out to the families of the victims of the San Bernardino shooting, offering scholarships to any who have children.
“Is it illegal to pull it out?”
Readers may recall Liberty University as the school that held a rally in March at a campus convocation for Ted Cruz, at which he announced his candidacy for president to an impressively packed crowd.
Asked if he was concerned by the prospect of thousands of armed young people on campus, Falwell said Virginia has a minimum age of 21 for a carry-conceal permit.
“I’ve got three favorites at this point: [Donald] Trump, [Ted] Cruz and [Ben] Carson, not necessarily in that order”, Falwell said. “And I just determined after that incident to make sure that Liberty University students were prepared, were able to protect themselves, to have the chance to protect themselves”.
