What This Terminally Ill 7-Year-Old’s Entire Town Does for Him Will
In one Canadian town, it may only be October, but the twinkling lights are up and the spirit of the holidays in the air and it’s all for one small boy celebrating what could be his last Christmas.
A Facebook page was set up to publicise the event – and almost three thousand people have already confirmed their attendance. Having exhausted all the treatment options, doctors have told his mother, Nicole Wellwood, that he may not be in good shape to enjoy Christmas in December. It was his mom, Shelly Wellwood’s, idea to celebrate early as a family – but other members of his family took it to the next level by spreading the word via fliers, social media, and a crowdfunding campaign to get the message out about “Early Christmas in St. George”.
On Saturday, little Evan will be treated to a special dinner and a 25-float parade that is set to march through his neighborhood.
If you’d like to wish him a Merry Christmas on social media, use the hashtag #LightsonforEvan.
Relative Shelly Wellwood setup a GoFundMe page for her family.
On Saturday evening, 25 Christmas floats will make their way around the town centre and pass by Evan Leversage’s home in St. George, Ont., where Christmas has come two months early. It’s more than I could have imagined.
“His question is “Why?'”, Ms Wellwood said”.
“When Evan looks out his window, the backyard is decorated and there’s a sign saying ‘Merry Christmas, ‘” she added. The town is also lit up with Christmas lights, there will be carolers and Evan’s family will have Christmas on Sunday morning.
“Can we light up St. George for Evan so he can see the lights for one last Christmas?”
