What to Expect from a Trudeau Government

A retired executive with pipeline builder TransCanada (TSX:TRP) says the long-stalled Keystone XL project can still be salvaged – if incoming Liberal prime minister Justin Trudeau acts swiftly on climate change.

Trudeau announced the removal of Canada’s jets from the campaign against IS during his first news conference as prime minister-designate on Tuesday.

In North America, Mr. Trudeau’s victory could also spur more integration between Canada and the U.S. on renewable energy. Having “North American support” was an important psychological boost. As a few people know, during the lengthy campaign I had a disagreement with Trudeau over his party’s climate policy.

Canada has a new government with the Liberal Party taking 184 seats in the parliamentary election, representing 54% of the vote.

Transplanted Canadians in the country are hopeful that the recent election of Justin Trudeau – one of the country’s youngest prime ministers – will bring about positives especially for the youth.

The incoming prime minister has also announced his cabinet will include an equal number of men and women.

Nelson Wiseman, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, said Canadian diplomats are delighted at Trudeau’s election because Harper never let them speak without checking with the government first.
