What TV channel, time is the Tulane vs. Navy game on today?
It’s true. The Green Wave put up 386 yards compared to Navy’s 291.
It was hard to believe considering Tulane ranked at the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision statistics in almost every defensive category.
This week the Green Wave faces Navy, another superior opponent team that runs the ball better than anyone that the Wave will face for the remainder of the entire year.
· Sophomore WR Teddy Veal hauled in six passes for 59 yards on the afternoon, marking the fifth game this season in which the sophomore has five catches or more. Fortunately for Tulane, team doctors have cleared Lee to play. He said “A win is a win dog” and that’s the approach I’m taking.
Navy (4-1, 2-0) came aboard as a football-only member this year.
Lee finished the game with 205 yards on 22-of-31 passing. Navy backup quarterback Tago Smith threw a 24-yard pass to Calvin Cass Jr, for the 31-7 lead. We saw that coming.
Defensively, the Green Wave posted 11.0 tackles for loss, marking the third time this season they’ve reached that plateau. “We knew it was going to be tough sledding”. Navy Midshipmen rank at 7 for 393.0 road rushing yards where as Tulane Green Wave rank at 123 for allowing 439.0 rushing yards at home.
Tulane also limited the Midshipmen to 133 rushing yards, well below their season average of 335.4.
Reynolds will continue his on-going quest for the all-time NCAA Division I rushing TD record as he remains four behind Montee Ball who rushed for 77 touchdowns during his career at Wisconsin.
“They did a good job of pressing the line on us”. Reynolds says the leg is feeling great and he will be ready to go full speed on Saturday against the Green Wave. “We have to take our anger and frustration and channel it into playing well”. Quarterback Tanner Lee tried a sneak on the next play and lost a fumble. A chop block penalty on guard Ben Tamburello threatened to derail a methodical march, but a 10-yard completion from Reynolds to Tillman helped keep things alive.
Navy marched towards Tulane’s end zone on the next drive, getting as close as three yards out.
Trailing 17-7, Tulane drove 72 yards to the Navy 2 when Badie was marked maybe a centimeter short of the first down after a measurement. The Midshipmen converted two third downs during the possession, including wide receiver Thomas Wilson’s nine-yard catch on third and seven.
Linebacker Nico Marley made a huge play on third down, firing into the backfield as though blasted out of a cannon to throw fullback Shawn White for a 5-yard loss.
Facing the triple-option offense for the second time this season, Tulane (2-5, 1-3 The American) held Navy (5-1, 3-0 The American) in check during the first half. “That’s what you got to do in these types of games”. Once again, the Mids took to the air to move the ball with Reynolds finding slotback DeBrandon Sanders streaking down the middle for a 36-yard gain deep into enemy territory.
Redwine was flagged twice for illegal hands to the face, although on one of them his hands were on the side of a lineman’s helmet.
Tulane: QB Tanner Lee – Self-explanatory…. the only way Tulane even remotely has a chance to win this game or at least be somewhat competitive, is for Lee to have a stellar performance.
“The defense definitely shifted the momentum and gave us good field position when we needed it”, Navy offensive guard E.K. Binns said.
“I’m just proud of the way our guys fought”.
