What Twitter is saying about the Iowa vs. Iowa State court-storming
Thursday night, after No. 4 Iowa State’s comeback, 83-82 win against in-state rival Iowa, Cyclones’ students stormed the court.
The frivolity of fans storming the court after a college basketball game took a dark turn Thursday when a Des Moines Register columnist sustained a broken leg.
Randy Peterson woke up Friday in a hospital, but he’s not about to blame Iowa State basketball fans. “That (win) is a great moment”.
Peterson said he believes the person who he collided with wasn’t actually a student, and he praised Iowa State officials for their quick response to the incident.
A reporter suffered a compound fracture of his leg as fans celebrated Iowa State’s dramatic comeback win over Iowa on Thursday night in Ames, Iowa. Those college kids … they’ve been camping out here (for tickets) for three days.
“There’s probably only like 10 schools in the country that do that”.
Morris and Jameel McKay led Iowa State with 20 points each, while Matt Thomas had a career-high 19 points on six 3-pointers. Four ISU players played at least 38 minutes, but Fennelly saw a reenergized group heading into the fourth quarter after the hail mary pass gave the Cyclones a jolt. “Sometimes I think people kind of don’t see that in her because of her personality”.
Iowa State coach Steve Prohm was sympathetic to Peterson’s injury but expressed how rare situations like this arise.
The big run didn’t truly start until the end of the third quarter, where Iowa State’s Nicole “Kidd” Blaskowsky threw a baseball-style pass to Meredith Burkhall for a buzzer-beating layup. “However, at this point our thoughts are focused on Randy and his wife Patty, who is battling cancer”.
The league says Iowa State handled the postgame celebration consistent with the Big 12’s guidelines for sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
“We call it the “three-second play” – real brilliant play call”, Fennelly said.
“We need to be able to come out anywhere and compete at any time”, Disterhoft said.
