‘What you doin’ on Instagram?’ Raven-Symone weighs in on #AssaultatSpringValley
In the 2011-2012 school year, black girls were suspended six times as often as white girls. As of Thursday afternoon, it was up to over 60,000 supporters and counting. We need strong black rolemodels in prominent positions on television an Raven Symone can not provide that.
As you can see in the video below (starting at the 2:50-minute mark), Raven said that the cop was wrong in acting the way he did: there is absolutely nothing that can justify this kind of force, especially on a child.
She continued, “First of all, why are there cellphones in school?”
The viral video which has been shared online immediately after the occurrence of the incident on Monday boasts a police officer in a South Carolina high school violently thrashing a teenage girl to the floor and throwing her across the room.
The Change.org petition arrives after Raven-Symone suggested the Spring Valley assault victim had it coming.
Symoné has managed to gain more foes than fans in a variable short time as co-host of The View.
Viewers of the segment took to Twitter, accusing Raven-Symone of being more sympathetic to the officer. “It’s easy for any of us to end up in somebody’s prison, and I’d like it to be a lot harder for police officers to become police officers”, she stated.
But she seems to believe that the responsibility of avoiding the assault was on the female student, and claims that if the student had followed the rules “this shouldn’t even be a problem to begin with”.
Thursday’s episode of The View made no mention of the backlash Raven-Symone faced for these remarks.
Raven then went on to give a rundown on Field’s record, seeming as though she was agreeing with Collins, but then again started sympathizing with the officer. There was no reason for him to be doing this type of harm. “How can you even dare side with something like that?”
