WhatsApp goes down on New Year’s Eve
Obviously today is one of the busiest days for the messaging platforms as people are celebrating the New Year.
Several regions in the US, including the North East and parts of the West coast were also hit by the outage.
The first reported WhatsApp connection problems were reported around 11:28 a.m. EST on the DownDetector website.
The last time WhatsApp revealed its user numbers, in September, it said that over 900 million people were on the service.
The Facebook-owned app boasts almost 1 billion users, many of whom won’t be able to message their friends on New Year’s Eve from the outage.
The glitch in Whatsapp servers was confirmed by the company and Whatsapp issued a statement.
Popular messaging app WhatsApp is facing some extended downtime on what could well be the very worst day for the service to run into such a problem.
While attempting to use the WhatsApp Web service generated an error message that said: ‘WhatsApp Web requires a working internet connection, which you don’t have at the moment’.
Thousands of users across Europe, America and Canada had trouble connecting to WhatsApp on both Android and iOS earlier today.
