WhatsApp video calling could be coming soon
Thanks to a recently leaked set of screenshots from Macerkopf.de (via IBT), it certainly seems to suggest that video calling capabilities could soon be making its way onto the WhatsApp messaging platform.
WhatsApp has already appealed to millions of fans around the globe thanks to free instant messages and calls.
According to a report from Germany, the latest private beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS have video calling support built-in. Business Insider has reached out to WhatsApp to confirm their authenticity.
The screenshot shows the iOS app version, and if history repeats itself, we will get the Android version first, with the iOS and Windows flavors in the following weeks. You will also be able to switch between the rear and front camera and even mute the person you’re talking with. It nearly has a billion users, and now it could be getting video calling – a feature that has been integrated in phones like the iPhone and Android devices – but not used often.
The video calling feature will let WhatsApp users to start and receive video calls on a Wi-Fi connection as well as cellular data. So far, there has been no word on video call support officially arriving to WhatsApp but speculation has it the feature may be rolled out early next year. The current edition of WhatsApp for iOS (version 2.12.12) on the Apple App Store does not have video calling feature but the next version of the app is expected to feature it, iDownload Blog reported. Using these tabs, you can switch back and forth between individual chats without having to go back to the WhatsApp chats list.
